Relationships matter.

That simple truth has perhaps been clearer this year than ever before.

Young people have been under pressure as social networks have moved online, face-to-face contact has been reduced to the absolute minimum, and schools, youth clubs, community centres - so much of the social fabric than enables relationships to take place – have been forced to close their doors.

But, of course, we still relate to each other.

Families still exist, friendships continue, although in different ways.

We can feel and experience the value of relationships that are dependable and that we can rely on to see us through thick and thin.

We know from all the partnerships that we are involved in that there are amazing young people and organisations out there using positive relationships to forge family bonds and cement friendships, even in these toughest of times.

That is why we have joined with Children and Young People Now to celebrate the energy and effort that young people, and those that support them, have put in this year to developing relationships with family, in all its forms, and friends.

These are the relationships that will help people thrive throughout life.

Together with Children and Young People Now magazine, we have launched the Youth Relationships Award, for the initiative that has done the most to inspire and enable young people to develop healthy, nurturing and dependable relationships with friends and family in all forms.

Children and Young People Now is the only dedicated magazine for professionals working with children, young people and families. The awards, now in their 15th year, have become the gold standard for everyone working with children, young people and families.

That is why we want to shine a light on all the wonderful work that has gone in to inspire and enable young people to develop dependable relationships with family in all forms and friends.

Please spread the word and encourage everyone you know to consider entering the Award.
